RAIL CONSTRUCTION

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The Scope of Works for Track and Plant Project Management (TPPM) was to construct the complete railway line, including the turnouts, yards and siding.

Scope of the Works:

  • Construction of 186 km of new track infrastructure
  • Assemble and Installation of 84 Turnouts
  • 13400 Flash Butt Welds & 2900 Thermite Welds
  • Development of 2 Yards (Marshalling yard, MAIDEN Terminal yard).  Semi-automated construction commenced in April 2016,  with full automated construction preceding in July, with the mainline of 132km’s being opened for SAR traffic by the end of December 2016.

The permanent way materials were supplied by the Main Contractor and the On Track Plant & equipment sourced from various countries.  The mechanized  on Track Plant utilized on this project included an SMD80 Automated Tracklaying machine,  Tamping machines, Ballast regulators and Flash Butt Welders.  The testing of welds was carried out by means of Ultrasonic technology. 

The track was designed to provide for the required Speed specification of 200 km/h and 120 km/h for passenger and freight respectively.

PLANT HIRE

NAMIBIA – MAINLINE TAMPER & REGULATOR LEASE C/W OPERATORS
  • Lease of a On Track Ballast Tamper and Ballast Regulator including on-site Maintenance and Operating of Machines
  • 2 Years Agreement, subject to a further 2 year extension
  • Contract Value – USD 1,588,629.17

We are currently contracted to D&M Rail Construction to upgrade sections of the Kranzberg-Tsumeb railway line consisting of approximately 392 kilometres. To date we have assisted with partial upgrade of 114,1km.

  • Lease of On Track Ballast Tamper and Locomotive
  • Contract Value – USD 409,411.00

PLANT REFURBISHMENT

ACQUISITION AND REFURBISHMENT OF DUNNETT SLEEPER DROPPERS/LAYERS , EX AUSTRALIA
  • The Dunnett Sleeper layers is an economical and versatile unit, designed for laying sleepers for both new track and replacement of existing track fast, accurately and with minimal capital investment.
  • 2 Units previously utilized by Laing O Rourke for building new track infrastructure for BHP Billiton in Pilbara, West Australia were acquired and refurbished for future use.
  • Refurbishment cost totalling USD 380,000.00
